Gov. says data centers will generate hundreds of millions in new revenue. But what will it cost you?
August 20,2026: The UCP is touting increased natural-gas demand and the royalties that come with it - as one of the major benefits of Alberta's data-center strategy. But increased demand has consequences. More demand means upward pressure on natural-gas prices, electricity costs and inflation - ultimately making life less affordable for Alberta families. Alberta should compete for investment. But government shouldn't count the revenue while ignoring the costs. Before committing enormous amounts of Alberta's energy, water, land and infrastructure, Albertans deserve to see the full business case: Who benefits? Who pays? And what's the return? A Tory government will make decisions based on evidence, transparency and meaningful consultation with the people affected - not announcements first and answers later.
