Practical. Principled. Ready To Govern.
Peter Guthrie believes Alberta should be a place where people can build a good life with confidence — where families can plan for the future, businesses can invest and grow, and the services Albertans rely on are there when they need them.
For Peter, good government starts with something simple: remember who you work for.
That means living within our means. Making careful decisions with taxpayers’ money. Delivering reliable public services. And being willing to make the hard choices that responsible government sometimes requires.
“Albertans work hard for what they have. Government has a responsibility to respect that — to spend carefully, deliver what it promises, and never forget whose money it is spending.”
Peter brings a perspective shaped by life well beyond politics. As a husband of more than 30 years and a father of two, he understands the everyday decisions families make about their future. He has also worked as a professional engineer, built a business, ranched, served his community as an MLA, and held senior roles in Alberta’s cabinet.
Those experiences taught him that good decisions rarely come from ideology alone. They come from listening, understanding the problem, weighing the trade-offs, and being accountable for the result.
Experience That Matters
Professional Engineer · Business Owner · Rancher · MLA for Airdrie–Cochrane · Former Minister of Energy · Former Minister of Infrastructure
Peter was elected to the Alberta Legislature in 2019 and later served as Minister of Energy and Minister of Infrastructure.
In February 2025, he resigned from cabinet after raising concerns about government procurement practices.
On December 9, 2025, Peter was elected leader of the newly formed Progressive Tory Party of Alberta.
He chose to help build something new because he believes Alberta deserves a principled conservative government focused less on politics — and more on governing well.
The Alberta We Can Build
Peter believes Alberta’s best days are still ahead.
A province where young people can see a future for themselves. Where families can afford to build a life. Where entrepreneurs and employers have the confidence to invest. Where public services are dependable. And where government earns trust by being competent, disciplined, and honest about the choices in front of us.
That is the kind of Alberta Peter believes is possible.
And it is the kind of government he is working to build.
