Alberta’s Future Is Worth Standing Up For
“I think it's a big win.”
That was Peter Guthrie’s assessment of the referendum result in his recent interview with Courtney Theriault on 880 CHED. As leader of the Progressive Tory Party of Alberta, Peter reflected on the outcome, the uncertainty surrounding Alberta’s future and the questions facing Premier Danielle Smith’s government.
With 75 per cent of participating voters choosing for Alberta to remain in Canada, Albertans have made their choice. But Peter’s concerns go beyond the result itself. He questioned whether the referendum was necessary, what it cost and the uncertainty it created for businesses and communities.
“Did we need the exercise, the division, the uncertainty, the cost to the business community?” he asked.
Peter also challenged the government’s approach to Ottawa, saying, “This was about creating a new constitutional battleground with the federal government.”
There is another important question the Premier needs to answer: where does she stand on separatism within her own caucus? Peter is challenging Danielle Smith to address this directly. Albertans have chosen to remain in Canada, and they deserve clarity about the direction of their government.
So, where do we go from here?
A Strong Alberta Within Canada
The Progressive Tory Party of Alberta believes Alberta’s future is within a strong and united Canada. We can stand up for Alberta’s interests and pursue better outcomes through constructive relationships rather than unnecessary confrontation.
Albertans are focused on affordability, health care, education and an economy that creates opportunity. Government should focus on these priorities, spend taxpayers’ money responsibly and be accountable for results.
Albertans have made their choice in the referendum. It is time to respect that decision and focus on the work ahead.
Your Progressive Conservative Choice
The Progressive Tory Party of Alberta offers a distinct progressive conservative approach: fiscal responsibility, strong public services, practical decision-making and accountable leadership.
We believe responsible government is about getting results, not simply spending less or making promises. It means respecting taxpayers, supporting dependable public services, encouraging individual responsibility and making decisions based on evidence and long-term value—not ideology or political point-scoring.
